- Open ArcCatalogue
- In the left-hand window expand 'Interoperability Connections'
- Double-click 'Add interoperability connection'
- In the 'Interoperability Connection' window:
- In the Format dropdown select 'WFS (Web Feature Service)'
- In the Dataset field, enter the URL provided by Getmapping
- Add '&MAXFEATURES=10000' to the end of the URL
- Unless the required layer is a low detail set such as County Boundaries, you will need to
restrict the data to an area of interest within the UK. This can be done by appending the
URL with “&BBOX=xmin, ymin, xmax, ymax” (for example to obtain an area incorporating the
Isle of White use “&BBOX=441000,70000,489000,111000”). The functionality to specify this
area of interest apparently was present in ArcMap 9.2 was removed in 9.3 and 9.3.1 – its
back in ArcMap 10! - The 'Settings...' button should now be accessible; click it
- Click on the '...' button for the 'Table List:' entry and select all the required layers from the window that comes up. It seems to be best not to select all the layers, particularly if the area required is the whole UK; in this case only select low detail layers such as 'County Boundaries'.
- Click 'OK' in the 'Input Settings' window. Then click 'OK' in the 'Interoperability Connection' window.
