The main WMTS service has been split into four feeds. This allows for clarity in WMTS viewers such as QGIS that do not organise the list of layers as well as is done for WMS.
The main WMTS feed contains:
- 12.5cm aerial photographic layer of Great Britain giving the most recent imagery for a given layer.
- 25cm aerial photographic layer of Great Britain giving the most recent imagery for a given layer.
- Most recent 50cm colour infrared photographic imagery of Great Britain.
A second WMTS feed is supplied that contains index overlay layers for these three imagery layers. These display a 1km2 grid that can be displayed over the top of the matching photographic layer. Calls can be made to these layers to obtain the flown dates for each square kilometre block.
A third feed will supply historic aerial photographic layers going back to 1999. Each layer is mostly from one year. Many of the datasets were edge-matched into older years (so they could be overlayed on the older imagery layers) so it is common to find blocks with older years at the edge of these image areas.
The last feed contains index overlay layers for each of these historic layers. These display a 1km2 grid that can be displayed over the top of the matching photographic layer. Calls can be made to these layers to obtain the flown dates for each square kilometre block.
